Background

Located among the mountains of Nagasaki prefecture, the small town of Hasami has played a vital role in the history of Japanese porcelain. Around the mid-17th century, when porcelain was largely confined to premium items for the upper class, Hasami developed techniques enabling the manufacture of robust yet affordable tableware in significant quantities. Through these innovations, Hasami ware gained a following among common people throughout Japan, driving the growth of the town’s ceramics industry for generations. Building on this heritage, the people of Hasami have continued to produce a wide range of ceramics, creating functional wares firmly ingrained in today’s way of life.

Our Brands

The Saikai Group’s lineup of original brands provides the foundation for its operations in Europe and around the world. Developed with leading designers and artists, the brands draw inspiration from the fabric of daily life, merging contemporary design with the production expertise and craftsmanship for which Hasami has long been renowned. Starting with the launch of Hasami Porcelain in 2010, the lineup has continued to evolve and includes brands with tableware, lifestyle and interior items. From Hasami-made ceramics to items in wood, glass and other materials, the products share a versatility that extends to a wide range of settings.
